The astronaut thing didn’t work out (see below).

You think the world would be a better place if:
Everyone could walk around wearing bear-claw slippers

The most profound thing you’ve ever heard or seen or experienced is:
My faith. One of my best experiences, ever—though maybe not profound—was taking a trip in an open-top aerobatic biplane as part of a story I was working on. We did all the tricks—barrel rolls, loops, dives and this one maneuver where we were upside-down, going away from the earth at exactly the same G-force as the ground was pulling us, rendering us weightless for about 3 seconds. Way cool!

It would surprise people to know that you:
Grew up wanting to be an astronaut and was one of the first to don a geeky blue jumpsuit at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. Gave up those aspirations after the camp’s Space Nerd Proficiency Test said I only qualified to serve as Weather Specialist III on my first mock mission.

I was forced to take dance lessons for 14 years, so if you need someone to do the time step, I'm your gal. However, I'm now allergic to sequins.

Besides writing, your other passions are:
Animals and animal welfare, gardening, home design and decorating, cooking & baking (which I do a lot of, because of my daughter’s food allergies), history, science, art and reading.

I'm a self-professed Crazy Cat Lady. I have two now, but I've been taking them in ever since I was old enough to whine at my parents to let me keep them. I'm the same with other animals, too. My husband is very tolerant of all the drives we've taken with an injured bird to a local wildlife rehabilitator. I've also volunteered as a dog walker at the downtown animal shelter.

Favorite joke:
Uhhh…..(crickets)….

Suddenly blessed with a day off and no limitations of time, space or cash, you would:
Take my big, goofy golden retriever, Buddy, out to the trails and pond and watch him just galumph around being a dog. Or hide under the covers with a pile of pizza boxes and books.
